Rhizoma Smilacis is widely consumed by the Chinese as functional food and as herbal medicine. It is a sweet and nontoxic herb used in traditional Chinese Medical (TCM) to treat acute dysentery, acute or chronic inflammation of the kidneys, mercury poisoning, etc. It does so by enhancing the functions of the stomach and kidney channels allowing for better waste management.
